OH, She Reads....

StartFragment

One of the things I wanted to accomplish this summer, besides being a hot girl(will try again next year) was to read more books. I decided to challenge myself and ended up reading about 8 books. Go me! Go me! While a few were slow reads, there were some that I couldn’t put down. I will share a few, hoping you have a chance to check them out as well. Let me say that my book choices ranged from 50 Shades of Grey to SOAR by TD Jakes. I did not set out to read a specific type of book. Whatever I was in the mood for was what I read. I’m versatile like that. :-)

Without any further ado, here are 4 or my recommendations along with my comments, enjoy:

More Than Enough- Elaine Welteroth

One of my friends, Moly recommended that I read this book. I trust Moly’s opinion on matters of importance, so I said okay. There is a lot of buzz around this book and the author herself. Welteroth is a multi-racial woman who conquered corporate America in the beauty industry. She was very resilient all while working her way to the top of some of our favorite magazines. What I liked most about this book is that once Welteroth realized her worth (especially being a woman of color), she never settled, no matter what she had to give up or to prove. It was such a motivating memoir to read. My deepest fears, my biggest dreams, my highest hopes were all in these pages and I’m grateful for her work, powerful storytelling and soul baring. If you are looking to read a book that is filled with funny stories, even some that will make you a bit upset, but leave you very inspired, I would recommend this book.

You Are Here- Kia Willis

Well, this is a little plug here. The author of this book is my "sister" so of course I would recommend it. This book was such a funny, quick and very relatable read. Ever had dating stories you shared with your girlfriends that made you go, "what was I thinking?" I know I have shared many of those failed relationship stories with my friends that we still laugh about with until this day. This book is full of those stories. If you are single, then you know that it is hard out here in these dating streets. Kia does a great job of letting us single ladies know that we are not alone. Ladies, read this book!

Steal Like An Artist- Austin Kleon

This book is more for creatives who may have lost their spunk along the way. It gives you motivation to get your juices flowing again. The book explains that nothing is really original and that your creative ideas build on what is already here. One of my favorite quotes from this book: "Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But, since no one was listening, everything must be said again." The book was inspiring, engaging, and overall entertaining to read.

Love Lost- Love Belvin

Oh my goodness! This four book series, will have you in love, feeling betrayed, looking for love, and laughing all at the same time as you venture though the chapters. This series spoke a lot about finding love, dealing with hurt, and also knowing when to have faith and learn to love with all your heart. I must say many times throughout my reading, I said "gosh this is the love that everyone woman should desire to have." If you are looking to read a series that you want to be on the edge of your seat, this is the one.

I have a few others on my reading list and rotation now:

Thick-Tressie McMillan Cofton

Believe Bigger-Marshawn Evans Daniels

You are a Badass At Making Money- Jen Sincero

Secrets of Six-Figure Women Barbara Stanny

You Don't Get Over It, You Get Through It- Shannon Fersner

What are some of your book recommendations?
